This unit taught about several things to consider when teaching new English learners. I was particularly interested in learning about how to teach children who are beginners. These lessons need to be very visual and interesting; children have short attention spans and need variety to stay engaged. A Needs Analysis should be done first to determine the needs of the student and what they feel their strengths and weaknesses are. I should make lessons based on the things students want to know and practice, but also what I feel they need to know. I was also concerned about teaching business English. This unit taught me that all I need is an understanding of the students’ fields and their duties, and I would just use my English expertise to teach them using resources that are particular to their industry.
