This lesson helped clarify the roles and attitude that is expected from a professional teacher. Basic methods of teaching are quickly divulged while giving a strong context for their application. The many roles of the teacher helped to picture myself in each given part. Though it is easy to think of these matters in an unconscious fashion, when one has the chance to see it laid out it is a strong way to reflect upon one's experience and to think how they can improve themselves in each individual role.
In the context of this first chapter student differentiation is juxtaposed through adult learners and young learners and the ways that time can change one's learning experience and how lessons must be changed for each given audience. This is important to remember as children and adults learn in radically different ways. The pros and cons of both are listed in full, with children having a stronger ability to acquire new knowledge and better acquire language as they are closer to the "starting point" so to speak of having learned their own language. Yet they are likely in the class against their will where as adults may have a more difficult time, but are likely in a class of their own desire.
This lesson was a good overview of the basics and I am looking forward to seeing deep-dives into each of these subjects.
