This unit had a lot of information on the best practices for selecting and teaching vocabulary, grammatical structures and language functions. I liked how after each topic there were bullet points that informed me on what is dependent when it comes to that topic, and then how to select or use techniques to achieve that category. I was able to link unit 3 in my learning with this section because it went over the ESA models with clear examples of activities that could be utilized. I also found it useful that within each topic, there was a breakdown of how to use the ESA model. I think the techniques sections were the most valuable to my learning, because I think it is important to know your lesson objective, and then pick appropriate activities to meet the outcome. Within the vocabulary topic, the techniques start off elementary in the engage stage with using realia, mime and action, pictures, contrast and goes all the way to open class discussions, role-play and debates at the activate stage. For grammar structures I noticed how the techniques start off similar to vocabulary techniques, but the main different is in the study phase. In the study phase the activities/ techniques are mostly worksheets and less about discussion. However, the techniques revert back to interaction based in the activation stage.
