It covers all about course books and materials used in a typical ESL class. Materials can either be authentic or created materials. Authentic are magazines , poems , videos , newspapers menus among many others while created include role plays cards , gap filled sheets and are usually created and designed by a teacher to supplement the course books.
The advantages of using authentic materials over created are authentic helps learners to gain confidence when they understand the concept, they are always real so more motivating and interesting. Course books on the other hand consists of a students book , teachers book and maybe cassettes to aid in audio and pictures. Some of disadvantages of course books include the fact that is always like a compromise , it can lead to teacher being lazy and less creative.
I have learnt the four major options of course books: omit , replace . supplement and finally adapt.
