In this first unit, I learned about the different roles, qualities, and responsibilities of both the teachers and students. In college, sometimes I would switch professors because of their style of teaching. I am a visual learner and some teachers just read from a textbook or talk for most of the class. I personally need to see examples to understand why something is done a certain way. Taking a second language class is the best example. I had an amazing Spanish teacher because her method of teaching involved all of the qualities listen in this lesson and beyond. She would tell us to sit down, stand up, or listen in Spanish but would use gestures so we would understand. When I moved to a different state and continued taking Spanish, my teacher wasn't very good. He only spoke to us in Spanish. While this method might work for some, if you're not a native speaker and can't understand what the teacher is saying, how can you learn? This was especially hard because this teacher didn't provide examples or use gestures so I/other students would understand what he was talking about. This was very insightful to see the qualities good teachers have and how it impacts the students.
