I have learned that pronunciation is ignored most of the time when teaching English. The teacher should follow certain rules and formulas when teaching pronunciation and phonology. This is important because when people are communicating the other person is trying to understand what is being said. Intonation is also important because that this is the variation in pitch and volume. A person’s tone of voice clarifies the mood of the statement being made. The different ways that this can be taught are with nonsense words, gestures, singing, and the board. When introducing stress the teacher should say a syllable correctly and then repeat the word with stress on a different syllable. This will help students understand what part of the word is being stressed. A way for teachers to introduce voiced and unvoiced sounds would be to have the students put their hands over their throat; this way students may feel the vibrations when different sounds are being made. The most important expressions to introduce are plosives, fricatives, affricates, and nasals. The different teaching techniques for the pronunciation of individual sounds are peer dictation, your own mouth, visuals, phonemes, and tongue twisters.
