Kevin, Montana TESOL Online & Teaching English Jobs
This unit taught me how to use eye contact, what gestures are appropriate, and what type of voice should be used in the classroom. It is important to encourage students while maintaining discipline in the classroom for a conducive learning environment. The teacher should be enthusiastic when working with students, this will aid student’s attention and help students stay on task and not misbehave. There are many ways to group the students and there is no real way to determine this until entering the classroom. Class size plays a huge role in how the students are grouped. How the classroom is arranged depends on space available, types of chairs, age of students, nationality, and student personality. Depending on the type of lesson the teacher is introducing will depend on the grouping of students. TTT should be kept to a minimum, but still considered important. When giving instructions, simple language should be used, the teacher should be consistent, visual clues should be used, and the teacher should check for understanding. Establishing rapport will be a way for the teacher and students to be successful as a team. The teacher should set the tone of the classroom and students should be stimulated by the attitude of the teacher. If the teacher is excited about his or her class, the students are more likely to enjoy coming to class.
