In this unit I've got an overview of the different ways to evaluate students' level and progress during the course and how useful tests can be for both students and teachers.
Placement and diagnostic tests must be given before or at the start of a course for evaluating and placing students into the right level class, also in order to help the teacher to prepare appropriate teaching material.
Progress tests must be given periodically, they must cover what has been done during the course and test all the 4 skills. Finally, practice tests are helpful to prepare students to external examinations, and they must follow the same structure.
