In this unit I have learned how to teach vocabulary, grammar, and functions. The teacher will ultimately decide which structure to use with their class and how each will be introduced. When teaching vocabulary, the teacher should factor in a student’s own language, what words the students already knows, the spelling and pronunciation of a word and appropriacy. When teaching a ‘straight arrow’ lesson the teacher should engage, study, and then activate. When introducing grammatical structures students will need to know what the language means, how it is used, what the grammatical form is, and how it is said. When teaching this type of lesson, a patchwork grammar lesson would involve engage, activate, study, activate, study, activate. When teaching language functions, the teacher should use an ESA boomerang lesson. Role playing is a good example of how to get students involved in this type of lesson.
