Broadview, Montana TESOL Online & Teaching English Jobs
Unit 3 observed different theories, methods and techniques of teaching English. There is a lot of them, but all of them have more negative than positive factors. Some of the methods are suitable for only low levels English learners, others lack a realistic context; some are focused on teachers' time, depriving students an opportunity to talk; some lack speaking skills, and others are too differrent, so they don't give a hope that they will bring a good result.
The ITTT Course had stopped on ESA methodology, by Jeremy Harmer. The methodology has a lot of positive and a couple of not considerably negative factors. It is suitable for each level of English learning. The ESA methodology consits of 3 phases: Engage (to get students to think and talk in English), Study ( the teacher is teaching and conducting some activities to check if the students understand the lesson), and Activate (the teacher creates a realistic situation, when students are able to apply their English as well as the new learned concepts. Although the phases can be separated in several parts and taught in different order, each lesson must start with "Engage" and finish with "Activate" phases.
The Unit also teaches , when and how to correct students, what the difference between mistakes and errors is, and how to give a feedback to the students. The Unit answered a lot af my questions and I am very thankful for the knowledge it gave me.
