Unit 7 looked at the importance of teaching a new language and the best ways to go about it in order to cover 4 important language aspects: 1. Understanding meaning, 2. understanding structure and construct, 3. Exposure to language, and 4. Ability to practice and pronounce language. The unit also discussed how to effectively deliver new vocabulary, grammar and other language functions in the classroom. I also learned how ESA Methods such can be applied appropriately in order to introduce new language to students. This included methods such as the Straight Arrow approach for new vocabulary and grammar, and Boomerang or Patchwork ESA structures for functions-based lessons. Examples were given of suitable activities for each language aspect topic as well as examples of typical ESA lessons on the specific language aspects, as well as how to build the activities into an effective lesson structure.
