In this unit I have learned about the 4 types of Past Tenses, such as Past Simple, Past Continuous, Past Perfect and Past Continuous. This unit looks at when to use each of these past tenses. We use past simple to talk about things that had happened at a specific time in the past, Whereas past continuous, look at temporary activity in the past or temporary activity in the past, interrupted by short action (past simple).Past Perfect, on the other hand, looks at things that happened in the past, but before something else in the past (past simple). Past Perfect Continuo’s, looks at activities that started in the past but before something in the else in the past.
The final thing I want to take from this unit is to look at activities I can use for teaching ideas. For the past simple tense, the activity I can use is asking students to match the present verb with past verb, for example, the present verb (eat will change to the past ate). However, for the past continuous, a good teaching idea to use in the classroom could be a defective game, for example, I was cooking, when I saw a big lizard in the kitchen, another student could ask the student, “What were you cooking”? Finally, for the past perfect tense, a very interesting teaching idea I could use in the classroom, for example, having a student telling a story and then retell the story backward, starting from the end and describing what had happened before.
