This unit focuses on two main subjects; namely teachers and learners. The unit presents the characteristics that a teacher should have in order to qualify as a good teacher, which require the teacher to both care about teaching and about the learning of students. In addition to these characteristics, teachers should be able to perform various roles in the classroom and be able to adapt and change their role, depending on the situation. The second part of this unit, which focuses on the learners, identifies the characteristics of a good learner and lists a number of factors and qualities of learners that teachers should acknowledge. For example, the age of the learners or their language level need to be considered when teaching. This is necessary in order to make the classroom a positive experience for both teachers and learners.
