This unit is about teaching pronounciation and phoology. It is the most neglected aspect of English language, because quite often teachers lack the training and confidencee in this aspect.Phonology is the whole sound system of the language. Teaching intonation is important, cause it carries the message in a sentence.From intonation you can tell if person is askig question, agreeing or disagreeing on smth, what emotions are expressed etc. I read about interesting techniques for indicating and teaching intonation, such as utter a nonsense sentences, using gestures,singing, making marks on the board etc.
Stress is aso very important. Without it we wouldnt be able to tell what the speaker was trying to say. We need to hear which words are emphasized. I found intersting information about four major ways that sounds join together in English: Linking, Sound dropping, Sound Changing, Extra lettering.
I think i is very useful to know phonemic symbols, so you can easily check dictionary for the word you dont know how to pronounce.
