From this unit, I have learned the importance of student evaluation and testing of language skills. The unit covered the structure and purpose of various different tests that can be used to test the students’ memory of the language, assess the students abilities for each of the 4 language skills (speaking, writing, reading and listening comprehension), grade students’ language levels prior to commencing the course etc.These tests and assessments(and evaluations) are important as they take place in not just one part of an English language course but before during AND after. This provides the students with information such as that in which they need to evaluate in order their own level and progress and to prepare them for upcoming lessons and tests/external assessments. Finally, some of the common English examinations were looked at as well as academic qualifications for university and college entrance, which teachers may need help their students work towards during their studies.
