Ideally schools should have all the books and materials needed, however this is not always the case. Teachers may have to supplement the course book using their own ideas.
Material were split into Authentic e.g. programmes and newspapers which must be selected carefully and creative e.g. crosswords and role play cards which can be graded to the level of the student.
Course Books were highlighted and advantages were given e.g they provides a syllabus that is graded to the student and provides a balanced mix of skill work. Disadvantages include not fitting the specific needs and interests and dictating what is to be taught. If you have a choice of course book look at range that could be suitable. There were four options for course book use: omission, replacement, supplementation and adaption.
