This unit focused on the importance of and methods for lesson planning. One of the biggest takeaways was to ensure the lesson plan allows for enough flexibility so that if students need additional time in the Study phase or for an activity in the Activate stage, that the teacher is able to provide it. Moreover, it is helpful to have someone monitor the class in order to ensure that there is an outside perspective allowing for improvements in teaching as needed. I had previously always thought of a lesson plan as a very strict document that allowed me to plan every single moment of the class, but the methodology described in this unit will allow me to focus on the ESA phases as described in earlier units while ensuring my students are able to learn what they need to and spend enough time engaging in various activities. This will be extremely helpful in also ensuring that my students are not bored with only focus on the Study phase and no fun activities to engage or apply their knowledge once the study portion has been completed. Finally, I can be less rigid with the structure of my lessons and allow for a more diverse, well-rounded lesson using the methods described in this unit.
