In this unit we learnt about teaching receptive skills- reading & listening. Both reading & listening are equally important for learners. If reading and listening takes place because it will help us achieve some particular aim or goal then it is for a purpose and if we listen or read for pleasure or to enjoy in some way than it is for entertainment.
Readers and listeners employ a number of specialist skills when when reading like predictive skills , scanning skills , skimming skills etc. we also learned that pre teaching of vocabulary is a must, teachers should always explain the meaning of the difficult or new words thy will be used during the study phase of the lesson. A teacher must be very careful while choosing the text. A teacher should carefully choose authentic and non authentic texts for learners according to there level and need. A should also build interest in students for reading. We must use a realistic comprehension tasks that iAd understanding.
