Normandy, Missouri TESOL Online & Teaching English Jobs
As a student of multiple languages, I have always found listening significantly more difficult when learning a language and reading to be easier. I did find it interesting when the video talked about not letting students to read word for word in the language, as they may miss the point of the sentence or spend a lot of time translating. When learning Japanese, I struggle constantly with this as I try to piece together sentences, only to realize that the part at the end completely changes the idea of the sentence in English. While teaching myself this language, I will actually use this on myself to better comprehend the sentences and hopefully my reading in the language. One of the advantages I feel I am getting from this course is not only learning how to teach English, but I also get to test and practice these ideas on myself occasionally and I believe it is helping me to learn in my other languages. In terms of listening, I hope to use the resources and technology to help students listen to English in different accents when appropriate, so they do not get to accustomed to listening to my accent, but also keeping it slow enough for the students to have time to listen and process the words that are being said. As a student of languages, I still feel that listening is the hardest skill to develop, but it is extremely necessary for students to succeed in learning a new language.
