It was a fairly drastic difference between the quality of teaching between the two videos. The students who were older and seemed to have some grasp on the English language, but lacked confidence in the speaking part of the language, were met with a harsh and very critical professor in the first lesson. The professor seemed to have a lesson plan idea, but did not consider how his students would handle his plan, and when things were not going right he would wrap up the activity and move on or present the answer. He would openly critique students who answered incorrectly and single students out. This made students overly nervous to answer questions and be embarrassed by their professor in front of classmates. The professor in the second video seemed more prepared to be flexible and to explain activities or grammatical ideas to students. He also encouraged the class to answer questions, and rarely asked individual students other than to get more quiet or nervous students involved. He never condemned students for trying and being incorrect, but encouraged the students to continue to try. THe activities were easy for students to understand, and he always explained more than necessary so that all the students would understand. He treated the students with respect and the students returned the respect. It was helpful to see the how a teachers attitude and preparation can effect the lesson and the students. Preparing a quality lesson plan and to build a great rapport so that students understand and are confident to try the language and ask question is extremely important.
