This unit covers the various techniques that can be used to manage a classroom: the use of the eyes, voice and gestures, the arrangement of the desks and the students themselves, how to choose between whole-class, individual, group or pair work, and how to maintain or enforce discipline.
I learned a lot in this lesson. I found especially interesting to learn more about the use of teacher talk time and how various techniques can minimize it while keeping it as clear and valuable as possible for the students, in the way one would give instructions for instance, or by switching from whole-class to pair. I also found really helpful to reflect on when it is best to stand, walk around the classroom, or sit down and take a step back. This last point and the classroom arrangement certainly lead me to compare past teachers and their different approaches.
