Phonology is the study of sound using study, science, classification and analysis. This unit shows two patterns of intonation, rise and fall and fall and rise. Techniques were given on how to teach including a very good example of using the football results.
Stress (strong) and the lack of stress words were covered and the two main rules to follow. Four techniques were given of indicating and teaching stress, i.e. gesture, choral work, the board and stress marks.
The phoenectic alphabet was not that easy for me to follow. I found some of the symbols confusing. The structure around articulation, using the six main organs and the six manners used, showed me how we use our mouth to achieve these sounds.
As a British native I found that this unit highlighted how difficult it must be for pupils that are not native English speakers to speak and pronounce the language, a process I take for granted.
