Like the previous two chapters on verb tense, the “devil is in the details” applies to understanding the vernacular of grammar. As a native English speaker, I grew up being corrected whenever I would use irregular verbs incorrectly. As an ESL teacher I am challenged to find mnemonics to help students grasp the anomalies of our English language. However, my rudimentary understanding of Thai provides insight in how they have “irregular” words as well. For example, the same word is used for “far” and “near”, the only difference is high or low tones. Hopefully in upcoming Units during this TEFL course I will learn strategies to connect the irregularities of two languages.
