I have learnt in this unit that there are two types of materials used in teaching. First one is called authentic materials which is not graded to the level of students and uses programs,magazines,newspaper,songs,poems,brochures,menus and films on videos. The second one is called created materials which is graded to the level of students. It is designed to replace/supplement matrials. Examples are crossword,wordsearch,puzzle,role-play,,cards,flashcards,gap-fill activities,pictures and stories. I have also learnt that there are advantages and disadvantages in using coursebooks for teaching. In advantages the coursebooks are usually expected by the students,not all materials maybe suitable for your class,provides syllabus which is graded to a level suitable for the students,provides security for students and teachers alike,attractive and appealing and offers many good ideas for inexperienced teacher. In disadvantages, it doesn't always fit the specific needs and interest of all class members,students might be reluctant to use the book , can become very predictable and boring,can make teachers less creative,can be outdated and unattractive and the last but not the least it dictates what is taught.
