Many different materials may be available for teachers to use in the classroom. The most common is a white or blackboard. To use the blackboard to maximum effect the writing needs to be legible and large enough to be seen from the back. It's a good idea to plan ahead what will go on the board and to leave space for both grammar and vocab. Overhead projectors can be used for similar things and have the advantage of being able to be planned and written in advance, and cutting down on time spent with the teachers back to the students. Audio from Cassettes, CDs, and the internet can be a great source of authentic and inauthentic material for students to practice their listening skills. It's a good idea to setup and test the equipment beforehand and have the media primed to the selection you want the students to hear. Videos from dvds and the internet can also be great source material for activities, and can capture the students attention better than text. Pre-made worksheets and worksheets created by the teacher are awesome and widely available. Physical and electronic dictionaries are useful and if you have enough computers for your students there are lots of computer resources. I like to also recommend duolingo and beelingual to my more motivated students who want extra practice.
