In this unit I have learnt what are the qualities of a good teacher and what roles a teacher can take in the classroom depending on the type and goal of an activity. The unit outlines what are the qualities of a good learner and what are possible reasons why a student wants to learn English language. It is important to adjust teaching material and types of activities to the students' level, because too complicated material would not be understood by elementary and beginner groups, while advanced groups may feel offended and lose interest in studying if presented with a beginner's level material. There are differences between motivation, experience and students' behavior depending on the age group. Adults tend to be more nervous about making mistakes, they have certain expectations towards the teacher and language course based on their previous learning experience, and are able to give opinions discuss wider range of topics. The youngest learners, usually less than 7 years old, are more willing to play, they have short attention span and absorb the English language knowledge in a similar way as their mother tongue.
