This unit introduces various methodologies for EFL, for example a classical methodology with grammar-translation, audio-lingualism or the silent way. The unit focuses on a recently created method called ESA. ESA stands for Engage Study Activate. These are three components that can be used for lesson planning, with most straightforward approach where a lesson begins with Engage phase, then is followed by Study phase and Activate phase. The phases can be multiplied and mixed to ensure that the lessons do not become too predictable for students. The key point is to always begin with Engage phase and finish with Activate phase.
I have learnt the importance and correction techniques and how they can be adjusted depending on the lesson phase. In general the teacher should minimize correcting students especially in the Engage and Activate phases, giving feedback after student finished speaking or after the activity is finished rather than interrupting.
