Being a teacher is one of the most privileged positions in terms of being able to inspire and act as a role model. This first unit was a good introduction to the many roles that teachers have to play depending on what style of people their students are. The skill is to be able to transition through those roles which reminds me of my current role leading workshops or training sessions. The most interesting workshops have been those where I have a mix of quiet and loud participants and how I have managed to make sure that I allow everyone their space and time.
Another interesting note was about the different learning styles across cultures and will be another key aspect for me living in Asia. I find this most rewarding as it has helped me learn and become much more self-aware which in turn helped me manage workshops more effectively. Finally, understanding the students’ motivation for learning English will also be an important aspect of the work in order to ensure developing a good rapport and to support them better.
