This unit was a bit tedious due to its content touching on an aspect of english that native-speakers have for the most part "learned intuitively". Though I am a strong advocate of the importance of correct pronunciation, I find the subject of phonemes to be too abstract for non-natives and thus am still not convinced about the effectiveness of whole lessons on the subject; I am particularly concerned with the possibility of students confusing this alphabet with the normal one when spelling/writing. The unit however provided interesting and complete, at least for english teachers, theory for placement and use of oral organs which can be used to correct students' pronunciation. The videos associated with the chapter were particularly helpful concerning the intonation part and the phonemic lesson. As for myself, I shall be putting more emphasis on intonation and stress in my lessons, but keep the phonemic aspect as a secondary ressource for special or particular classes when needed.
