From my perspective I can say the past tense means a great option at the moment of using in different moments and in different areas, because it has the link between the present and it becomes in a past immediately. The connotation of the present and the past tenses I could say it has similar structure but it depends of the use, it is important for the students to has clear the use and the meaning of each tense.
