This unit focused mainly on types of students and the role of teachers including the limitations and advantages of each role. The unit also focuses on the different levels of learners and what motivates learners. I am currently an Assistant Language Teacher (ALT) in Japan, and a lot of these things I can relate to. I’m glad that this lesson has explained more clearly things that I have seen in the classroom. It is important to understand our roles as teachers and how to impart our knowledge to students without being overbearing or condescending. In this unit you covered what makes a good teacher, I believe that they are all a very integral part of what makes a good or great teacher. I love teaching and so this has helped me to be more patient and since I love it I’m always happy to be in the classroom which also makes me lively and somewhat entertaining. Of course it is so vital to create activities which allow the students to speak as much as possible.
In short this lesson has clarified what the differences between adult learners and young learners, it taught the role of the teacher and how best they can share their knowledge with their students.
