I have learned about the general qualities that 'good' teachers and learners should possess for effectively learning in the classroom. I have learned about the wide variety of roles that the teacher plays during class and how/when to effectively carry them out. I learned about key differences between adult and young learners such as their learning experience, motivation, language awareness, nervousness, behavior problems, and learning experience and how to best understand and work with those differences. This unit taught me about the differing language levels that individuals may hold and how best to approach these individual students learning process based on their level of comprehension. Finally this unit taught me about the motivation that learners may have when beginning the process of learning English such as; consideration of their future career prospects, a desire to live/study in an English speaking country, out of interest of languages themselves, travel purposes, a desire to speak with friends, colleagues, partners, etc in the case of adult learners. As for young learners the motivations may range from simple things such as the desire to improve grades at school or improve their chance of success in exams or perhaps be able to assist their non-English speaking family members with relevant issues affecting them. Overall this unit has equipped me with the entry level knowledge of basic and core aspects of the teaching profession that should be taken into consideration during the teaching process.
