There are common problem situation that can arise, especially for new teachers. First classes should be prepared well as they set the tone for the rest of the course. They should be engaging, build rapport and needn’t use the coursebook. Warmers are useful at the start of every lesson to get students ready and excited to learn. Extra work can be arranged for students of higher ability but generally the pace of the class should follow the face of the majority. It is best to discourage use of native language and endeavour to use English as much as possible within the classroom. It is good to encourage and find ways to help reluctant students. Listening materials should be used well. Many other problems may arise during a teaching career but with preparation, experience and flexibility and a good attitude, a good teacher will be able to handle them.
