Receptive skills is the understanding of information you receive when you’re listening and when you’re reading. There is no need to produce language, but to receive and comprehend the language that is being presented. Productive skills are speaking and writing. You use the language that you have acquired and produce a message through speaking or written text. Although receptive skills and productive skills are equally important, most students prefer to focus on their speaking skills in the classroom. Writing is the most difficult skill for language learners since writing requires a great understanding and degree of accuracy. Although it is difficult for students, it still needs to be considered and incorporated. Therefore, the teacher must create the need and desire, in the students, to encourage them to speak and interact in creative ways to help improve the students receptive and productive skills.
