In unit 12, I have learnt that both speaking and writing are known as productive skills which include playing games as well. I also learned that in language communication speaking verbally is a preferred choice as some students view writing as a difficult skill because of their poor penmanship and so some students are reluctant to communicate by writing as they have a fear of making mistakes, a lack of motivation and can be intimidated by their peers.
However, as a teacher, he or she can turn students fear into enjoyment and relaxation as the lesson is taught in a dynamic and interesting way using a variety of techniques as mentioned in unit 12.
For example, making speaking activities more purposeful by creating a need and desire to communicate effectively. The teacher can also allow students to work in pairs or small groups as this enables and encourages better interaction and mastering English as a second language
