From this unit, I learned that there are 8 parts of speech in the English language. Each part of speech explains how a word is used. Some words can be nouns in a sentence, but can be a verb or adjective in the next. Depending on how a word is used, it can fall into more than one part of speech. The purpose of a part of speech is to denote the functions of a word regarding its meaning and grammar. Just like nouns, pronouns can either be subjects or objects in any sentence. Most English speakers are capable of using all parts of speech, but still not understand how some category of words are used or what they do.
