The two productive skills are speaking and writing. Writing shouldn’t be neglected and simply left as homework since it will often not be done. Fluency and accuracy activities should be used to encourage communication. Fluency activities focus on allowing the students to be creative and use any language they know while accuracy activities focus on seeing students produce the correct language. Both are equally important. Controlled and guided activities can be arranged by the teacher and in more creative exercises the output is determined by the students. For speaking, role plays can be very effective while for writing, creative work such as creating cartoons and storyboards can arouse interest and a sense of satisfaction for students in producing such a piece of work. Games are also excellent opportunities to use and practice productive skills.
