As a teacher, it is advantageous when we evaluate our students. This way, we know what their strengths and weaknesses are. From this, we can construct a lesson that is based around their abilities so that they are able to understand and benefit from the lessons as much as possible .
Evaluation can also be used to monitor their progress over the time. One way of evaluating is through testing. There are a variety of tests such as placement test, progress test, diagnostic test or practice test. These tests are carried out throughout the course at specific timings. For example, placement test are carried out at the start of the course to see how much a student knows and place them according to their level of understanding. Progress test are carried out often throughout the course to revise and review what students have learnt. Practice test usually have a similar format to that of the external or national exam that the students will be taking.
