This lesson involved watching a teacher perform a lesson on modal auxiliary verbs two times one being more effective than the other. The first example lesson showed the teacher making many basic errors and highlighted how those errors affected how the students understood and performed during the lesson. The first video showed a teacher who did not introduce himself, spoke quickly and not clearly, gave instructions without a clear explanation, described the level of difficulty of the lesson concept as easy making students to nervous to answer questions pertaining to it for fear of making a mistake. Teacher in the first lesson also seemed to have an impatient and unwelcoming demeanor during the lesson which also made the students uncomfortable. The unit then showed a second video with a lesson going over the same concept of modal auxiliary verbs however this time taught in a much better method. In the second video the teacher had a friendly demeanor and personality, smiling at students, introducing himself and requesting the names of his students to build rapport. The teacher did not immediately dive into the lesson concept but rather asked students during the engage phase to list animals they knew of as well as using mimes and gestures in order to promote class participation in listing vocabulary words relevant to the lesson. This method allowed for a much more effective study phase in which students were more enthusiastic about completing the assignments. The professor engaged all class members to answer questions posed to them which helped to make the entire class feel more involved. The teacher concluded the second example lesson with a much more effective activate phase activity by having students draw their own imaginary animals (and list what they can and can't do) rather than having them simply think of one and having them list their abilities as shown in the first example lesson. This unit demonstrated how the teacher's demeanor and method of directing class changes the ability of the students to understand important lesson concepts.
