In this unit, I reviewed factors that play into good teaching and good learning, the roles of a teacher, and variables which affect learners. Good teachers and good learners must have similar qualities in them, such as a willingness to participate in the classroom, a passion for what they are doing, and a willingness to learn (yes, even the teachers). Confidence and kindness are key, as teachers must be willing to kindly answer a student's questions well without making them feel belittled and the student must be able to ask their questions freely. The teacher must also be aware of the factors affecting their students in order to adapt to the classroom dynamic and teach them effectively. The dynamic of the classroom and the methods or roles the teacher employs can vary with age, classroom experience, behaviour problems, culture, first language, motivation, and/or nervousness of the student(s). To summarize, the teacher and the students compose a team, each doing their part to reach the end goal of either teaching or learning the subject at hand.
