This unit covered the management of a classroom and how different factors can affect a classroom dynamic. Seating arrangements, for example, can either bring a class together more intimately (horseshoe or circular arrangement) or put all the attention on the teacher (traditional rows). Maintaining discipline in a classroom is essential for the purpose of learning, and so the teacher must know how to not only maintain order but do so in a professional and dignified way that shows the students that he or she cares about them and their learning experience. Gestures and eye contact can convey more meaning sometimes than words can, and visual cues will help the teacher communicate with the students where the language skills may still be lacking.
