This lesson opened my eyes to the importance of thinking through how I should introduce each new unit of language. Vocabulary and grammar are obvious enough but this unit made me think about language functions as their own unique category that requires a different approach. I think it is also great how this lesson reinforced the different ways we can structure an ESL lesson within the framework of this courses methodology. I think an effective lesson can and should combine new vocabulary with a language function or grammar principle if possible. I like the activity based learning that suggests the students write a story using the simple past tense based on pictures they have seen and the task of inviting other students to different events. I will use these examples.
