This unit focused on the different materials and equipment that can be used in teaching. The first teaching aid is the board. As all classrooms utilize this aid, this unit mainly emphasizes that using the board effectively is very important for teaching to be effective. Another teaching aid is the interactive whiteboard. This equipment are considered smart boards, and work like computers on a large board. The importance that is emphasized is that the teacher must know how to use the equipment and must have a back-up plan in case anything goes wrong. The third equipment is the overhead projector or what is commonly known as the OHP. Although there are many advantages to using the OHP, like being prepared in advances and being able to use the OHT's over and over, there are still disadvantages that the teacher must be aware of in order to make the lessons more effective. Next we have the visual aids that are an important teaching aid that helps the teacher "bring" real things into the classroom. The teacher must just make sure that the visuals are big enough for the students to see. Another teaching aid is the worksheet and work card. These are effective when activities are to be performed or for exercises. The cassette recorder is another equipment that teachers can use. This has been a useful tool for many years and although is being replaced by technologically advanced tools nowadays, they are still very useful. The CD player is an alternative the cassette recorder. These are used as a main source of audio in a classroom. Other devices are the videos, DVD and video cameras. These can all be used within the lessons and activities, as well as evaluation methods. Course books, dictionaries, resource books are often used to help the students with the lesson, Giving of photocopies and using the computer are other methods and equipment used in the lesson and as further resources for the teacher as well as for the students.
