This chapter discusses English phonology and how to teach pronounciation to students. The chapter starts with the rise/fall of intonation in the English language and continues with syllable and word stresses. Depending on intonation and stressing a sentence could potentially have several different meanings (this is with reference to the ‘He did not mean to kick that dog sentence). The chapter they progresses into the phonetic alphabet as well as the locations of sound production in the mouth. Lastly, the chapter provides several ways of teaching proper pronunciation ranging from tongue twisters to making nonsense words.
