The final unit focused on troubleshooting problems that may be encountered in class. One of the common problems that may be encountered is the first lesson of the class. This first lesson must be used to establish rapport with the students, finding out the level of the students and knowing what their goals are for studying English. The teacher can get to do these by using warmers such as hangman, pictionary, tongue twisters and memory games.
Another problem that may be encountered in class is having a group of students who have different levels. This is the biggest problem that can be encountered and it can be dealt with by separating the students in class per level and giving each different materials that suit their level. Another way to deal with it is to use the same material but to give each group different tasks. Pairing strong students with weaker students can also be a help as the stronger student will help the weaker student.
When handling large classes, there won't be enough time to deal with students individually. The teacher then needs to deal with the class as a whole by using worksheets or choral repetitions. Also, it would be beneficial for the students if they are grouped in pairs or into small groups where a leader is appointed. This ensures the participation of all the students in class, even those who are reluctant to participate. Make sure though that the native language should not be used in class or in the groups. Students and the teacher must use the English language at all times to ensure learning.
Finally, students will encounter difficulties in listening comprehension. When teaching listening comprehension, make sure that the instrument is functioning properly and that the material is clear enough for the students to hear it clearly. Materials should be chosen carefully so that the would lern effectively.
