There are four main present tense forms to consider when teaching. These are present simple, present continuous, present perfect and present perfect continuous. Each have their own usages. Confusion can arise for students in determining which tense to use to describe a given situation and the many irregular verbs inherent in the language. There may also be pronunciation difficulties because of the contracted forms possible with present continuous, present perfect and present perfect continuous tenses especially in the negative form.
