This unit talked about teaching receptive skills, which are reading and listening. It is important to select material that will interest students and even build interest. Furthermore, it is important to build interest in the material. Another important component to teach is reading with a purpose. Students will read text with different purposes and it will influence how they read the material.
I reflected on how to incorporate all the receptive and expressive skills (productive) within a lesson or topic. For an ESL, a reading lesson can involve all four literacy skills (reading, writing, speaking and listening). I felt a good point that was mentioned was that listening can be more difficult than reading, as the student only hears the content one time. While a few strategies were given in how to teach listening, I would like to learn even more than that which was given in the lesson.
