In this chapter I learned about assessment and evaluation of students. I began by learning the different types of tests (placement, diagnostic, progress and practice). Placement tests serve the purpose of discovering a students English level in order to be placed in a correct class level. A placement test usually begins with simple questions that progressively become more difficult. A diagnostic test is similar to the placement test except they are more extensive. Progress tests are on material covered during a class and allow the professor to gadge individual progress as well as what has been absorbed and what material needs to be reviewed again. Lastly, practice tests serve the purpose of giving students a revision on what will be covered in the exam. This Unit then continues to explain the types of exams oftentimes required of non-native speakers such as the TOEFL or the various types of Cambridge assessment.
