This unit analyses different theories and methods teachers use in teaching English as a foreign language. The unit analyses several methods and their techniques used giving their pros and cons but throws more light on the ESA(Engage, Study and Activate) method as the most effective method as it incorporates the student need to be motivated, exposure to the language and opportunity to use the language.
It outlines activities to implement each phase of the ESA method. This method is effective as it gives a chance for feedback and correction which encourages the learners self awareness, corrects and praises the learner and thus lets them to evaluate their progress and success.
