Classroom management is extremely important. It can be one of the hardest aspects of the job to learn from a text book. The best way to learn is to try running effective classroom lessons. I have been in teaching situations with both small and large class sizes and it definitely changes the dynamic. It is very important to keep the students engaged and be aware that as a teacher someone is almost always watching you. It is important to project and friendly and enthusiastic demeanor but that must be balanced against the necessity to be an authority figure and source of discipline when required. I think this unit reinforced some good ideas and practices regarding eye contact, seating arrangements, and establishing a rapport with students.
